The President of the Keystone Agricultural Producers has a message for farmers north of Portage la Prairie.

Bill Campbell says producers should be checking their feed supply.

"I would encourage producers, if they have any extra feed or straw, to make sure they contact the Manitoba Hay and Straw Listing Service, so that there would be some line of communication to put feed out there so that people who need some have an avenue to maybe source some," says Campbell.

There have been concerns that a hay shortage could be imminent.

"We look like we're going to have a feed shortage in the Interlake and northern part of the province," says Campbell. "We just maybe need to have some type of avenue to connect producers with those who have product that maybe will work for them."

He says it's something that should be dealt with now.

"If we wait until November, it will be too late to source alternative feed," says Campbell. "We need to be on top of this and make sure that we find a feed source for these livestocks through the winter."
