The perception is that mosquitoes are taking over the city.

The reality, at least when it comes to the city's mosquito traps, is that numbers are still very low.

Portage city officials have been watching the traps very closely this week, and are reporting there were fewer than 4 mosquitoes found per trap.

The city will only fog for mosquitoes after considering several factors such as precipitation, soil saturation, number of mosquitoes in traps, daily temperatures and larval development. After looking at those factors, there are no plans to fog at this time.

If there are more than 50 female mosquitoes in a trap, that is considered high.

There are a total of four traps in Portage:
- South Mellenville/Koko Platz
- Island Park
- Central Area
- North End
