This morning's shooting incident at Dakota Tipi First Nation left two people injured, and has captured the attention of the entire province.

It's also impacted the Portage la Prairie School Division.

Superintendent Hazen Barrett says the RCMP told them there's no more threat to the schools than anyone else in the area. However, he says the Division's taken precautionary measures.

"Our administrators in the schools have been advised to take some extra security measures to monitor entrances and monitor the grounds. And we'll be kept updated by the RCMP as things progress."

Barrett stresses adds students' concerns are being addressed.

"In most cases, the schools have counsellors available, and the teachers are very well trained in dealing with students' anxieties around incidents such as this. We're just dealing with their safety right now, and talking about there has been an incident occur, and keeping in touch with the kids to find out if there's anything they want to talk about."

Barrett notes while security measures are in force, the schools are still accessible.
