A manhunt continues on Dakota Tipi First Nation, following an early morning shooting. RCMP officers have been on the scene since about 4:30 this morning, after two people were shot in the community. RCMP Sergeant Bert Paquet says a male and female victim have been transported to hospital, and are listed in serious condition. Police are on the lookout for 31 year-old Irvin William Tyson Pashe of Dakota Tipi. The community's been locked down since early this morning, and Paquet says they have reason to believe he's still in the First Nation.

Sergeant Bert Paquet speaks to the media

"He is considered armed and dangerous at this point. There are no active schools on the reserve, but there are some near the community. Those schools are being patrolled by Portage la Prairie RCMP officers. Our two priorities right now are public safety and officer safety, and safely locating the suspect. Our efforts our concentrated within the community at this point."

They're asking anyone with information on the whereabouts of Pashe to contact police. However, they discourage the public from posting pictures of the officers searching the area, to ensure the safety of their members. Paquet says they're continuing their investigation, noting the reasons behind the incident have yet to be determined.

"It's too early to say. We're still trying to establish the incidents that led to both shootings. We're trying to see if there's a connection between the suspect and the victims. Our efforts are full concentrated on locating and arresting the suspect."

All points of access to the First Nation are blocked by police, with only police vehicles able to enter and leave the community.
