If you missed your chance to get an application in for the Community Foundation of Portage and District's grant application, don't panic, another intake will occur in the fall.

CFPD Executive Director Mary Lynn Moffat says they always hold two intake dates, one in the spring, and the other in the fall. She hasn't been able to get a good look at all the applications, but says the selection process has begun.

"We have 11 applications in, and we're just starting the process of making sure we have all the paperwork needed, and the documentation, and the answers we need. There is a process that all the applications go through. They'll be reviewed by a committee of board members from the foundation, as well as some community members. Every one is evaluated on a score sheet."

Moffat says it's great when the community works together to better our city.

"It's really exciting to be able to work with the folks to see if there's any other ways we can help them. I've spent a lot of years working in community projects, and community development. So it's really interesting for me to be able to sit there and say 'yes, come to us, but have you tried these other organizations that have funds available for various types of projects.' I just love to see things happening in Portage, and any way that we can work together to make these things happen is wonderful."

The projects really vary in size according to Moffat.

"Some of them are smaller projects, and some of them are major projects, so there's no real limit of terms of what can be asked for. There's a limit of what we can give out, because we only have so much money each year to put back into the community. The projects range from a few thousand dollars, to a number of thousand."

Each applicant will go through the proper assessment period with board members, and community members. The selected project will be announced in May.
