This month's 17th annual La Prairie Lioness Celebrity Auction raised $13,945.00 for Central Plains Cancer Care Services in Portage la Prairie.

A cheque presentation this morning saw the funds turned over to Central Plains, and Resource Coordinator Judy Sauder calls it an amazing show of support.

"From the La Prairie Lioness Club, as well as everybody who came out that evening. And all of the businesses that donated that evening toward the auction, and the raffle table, and the silent auction. We couldn't be more grateful be more thankful of receiving these funds."

La Prairie Lioness Clara Griffiths says it's a cause that's dear to their hearts, because many of them have been touched by cancer. She's also grateful for the community's support for 17 years.

"We have to be so thankful for all our businesses, for all the people that come out. It's very difficult for the businesses because they get hit so many people, so many organizations, so we've been very fortunate that they've stepped up every year."

Sauder adds she's humbled every year at how much money the Lioness Club raises.
