It's that time of year again.  World-renowned Canada's National Ukrainian Festival takes place in Dauphin this weekend with all its cultural glory.

President Kayla Gillis outlines some of the excitement.

"Instead of having a group come from Ukraine for our Sunday night headliner show," says Gillis, "we are having a dance extravaganza featuring a Ukrainian dance ensemble and a folk ensemble We also have a perogy-eating contest. The first person to eat 24 perogies wins. We have a children's corner with a bouncy castle and also face painting. We have a sip-and-paint afternoon. So, come sip and paint some pictures. I think we're painting a Ukraine dancing booth. There's an embroidery workshop and a perogy workshop."

She adds, ever since she's been on the board, a couple from Australia has faithfully flown over and attended, and they're here again this weekend. Gillis notes you just can't pass up their perogies.

Gillis expects between 7,000 and 8,000 people. You can use their upper camping sites for $55 noting they're almost sold out, with lower camping available at $45, and Gillis notes the entire weekend's attendance is $120 at the gate. Friday pass is $60, with Saturday and Sunday each for $70.

A shuttle is available as well from 10:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. It comes with a wristband that costs $15 for the full weekend or $5.00 per trip. The festival includes five grandstand shows.

Gillis adds her absolute favourite part is the Saturday Night Grandstand with fireworks following.
