A man and woman face multiple charges after Portage la Prairie RCMP located weapons, drugs and stolen property in a vehicle search.

Mounties say in a release, Portage RCMP officers responded to a call of a disturbance in the Oak Bay area Tuesday morning around 10:30 a.m. Once on scene, police noticed a pick-up matching the description of a vehicle reported stolen overnight.

RCMP confirmed the vehicle was stolen, and arrested the female driver — 26-year-old Laura Faye Buboire — for possession of property obtained by crime. She was taken into custody.

A male suspect, 43-year-old David Cameron Gray, was then located in a nearby home and arrested for possession of stolen property.

Officers performed a thorough search of the vehicle and suspects and discovered the accused were in possession of two sawed-off hunting rifles, various bladed weapons, methamphetamine and a considerable amount of items police believe to be stolen property.

Buboire and Gray were both held in custody until such time as they could be brought before the court. Both face charges for unsafe storage of firearms, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, possession of a weapon obtained by crime, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, tampering with the serial number of a firearm, possession of property obtained by crime, and possession of methamphetamine.

"We have evidence right now that suggests these two suspects were involved in multiple property crimes across the southwestern part of Manitoba," says Portage la Prairie RCMP Const. Sean O'Keefe. "We still have to do our investigations and other detachments are doing that as well, and we're also trying to identify anyone else who may have been involved in these incidents."

Investigators are now looking to contact the property owners in and around Treherne, Carman, Elie and Headingley. Victims of property crimes in those areas, who were broken into overnight, are encouraged to contact their local police detachment, as their property may have been recovered in this incident.
