A week from today is Valentine's Day, and if you've visited a flower shop recently, you've seen florists busy preparing for the event.

One of those is Portage la Prairie's Mil-Jeanne Flowers & Axcenz, and owner Kyle Pettinger acknowledges while it's busy for them, it's also a special time, that brings back, and creates, memories.

"The first Valentine's, maybe, for some young gentleman with a new sweetheart in his life. The amount of times -- and I'll say to Dad's (Larry Pettinger) time spent here -- that he was able to help that young gentleman with his first rose that he bought, and now he's coming in and getting 25 roses, because he's had 25 Valentine's with his sweetheart."

Pettinger adds Valentine's means they have exciting items available.

"It's about some of the things that the girls pair up," he says, "We have a couple of containers that you do a side-by-side, so you can have a chocolate treat, along with the flowers."

He continues, "There are, this time of year, the special flowers like the birds of paradise that we don't always see, the frisia, which has an amazing scent. It adds, it's not a just normal week, it's where we're able to get the different things."
