The Portage Plains United Way received a $5,000 boost from Portage Mutual Insurance.

United Way Executive Director Mandy Dubois was thrilled to receive the support, and says they haven't announced a campaign goal yet, but they're always open for donations.

"Usually our fundraising campaign kicks off in September each year, and we actively fundraise from September to December. That's when we see the most of our individual and corporate donations, but there is some that come in sooner than this and this is one of the first ones. It gives us a great kick-start for September."

She says the money will really help them in deciding this year's campaign goal.

"It really puts us at ease knowing the community is still behind us, they're still going to support us. We've surpassed our goal the last 2 years, and however the agencies still require a lot of funds to continue their programs and services. So it's always a hard thing to figure out, what the community can handle for fundraising, as well as what we can give to the member agencies."

Dubois says this donation is a great kick-start for September.
