If you're a pet-owner in Portage la Prairie you're reminded that annual pet licensing started with the new year.

Liz Driedger"This is something that people may not be thinking about, and may not even be aware that it's required," says City councilor Liz Driedger. "But pet licenses are required annually. They expire December 31st each year, and pet licenses for 2017 are available at no cost if your animals are registered between January 3rd and March 31st at City Hall."

Driedger explains proof that you've vaccinated your pet for rabies must accompany your application, adding once March 31st rolls around if you haven't licensed your pet, or if you acquired a new one, there's an additional fee. That fee is $20 for spayed or neutered dogs and cats, or $50 for non-spayed pets.
