Portage la Prairie City Council's next meeting promises to be exciting. That's from Mayor Irvine Ferris, noting they'll once again be taking a look at the issue of power boats on Crescent Lake. Council's had a committee investigating the matter since late last year, despite a survey showing 58 per cent of respondents didn't want to see the use of motor boats in town. Ferris notes tomorrow night will see the committee discussing their findings, to help form a recommendation on the city's next steps.

"A report from the Lake Use Committee is coming to Council Monday night, in committee. It will be discussed by Council after they've received the report. I know the public's very interested in this, we've heard from a lot of people, so I think people will be interested in that report."

Those on both sides of the issue have been vocal about their positions, and Ferris notes that hasn't changed since the discussions started over a year ago.

"There are two distinct schools of thought out there. A lot of folks have opinions on both sides, to allow motorized craft on the lake, or not to. People have talked to me and they have some very good reasons on why they feel the way they feel. It's an interesting issue and the lake is certainly a centre of our community, a lot of people are interested and they want to express their opinions."

Ferris emphasizes the committee meetings are open to the public, and says it will be a good opportunity for residents to see what the committee's reporting first hand. Monday's meeting starts a six o'clock at City Hall.
