When it comes to being safe this holiday season, it's not just humans you have to be thinking of!

Owner of Kenny's K9 Kennedy Guy says you'll want to watch where your pets are walking!

"The first one that comes to my mind is ice melt -- just to make sure that if you're taking your dog for a walk, as soon as you get home, give their paws a quick wipe," says Guy. "You never know what kind of ice melt is on people's sidewalks and driveways. Make sure that you have a pet-friendly ice melt and keep cautious of their paws."

She says there is a stray cat situation in our town and we have to keep an eye out for them.

"If your car is parked outside or on the street, you know you're walking past your hood anyway to get into your vehicle," says Guy. "Give your hood a bang, just to ensure that if any cats are hiding under there to keep warm, that you'll scare them out before you drive away."

Finally, temperatures have been quite cold and it's good to know how long your canine can stay outside.

"Little dogs may only be able to be out for five to ten minutes and some of your bigger double-coated dogs may be able to be out there for a couple of hours," says Guy. "If you do leave them outside in your yard unattended, just always make sure that you do have shelter for them, just in case they do get cold, they have somewhere to go."

She advises for booties and jackets for smaller dogs that may not be happy with being outside.
