Manitoba Hydro's issued a news release about an incident that happened over the weekend in Winnipeg.

"Late Saturday or early Sunday Morning a person, or persons, broke into three of our fenced compounds in Winnipeg," says Bruce Owen, Public Affairs Officer for Manitoba Hydro. "One on Redwood Avenue, another on Pandora Avenue, and a third on Dawson Road. Once breaking into the compounds 10 vehicles in total were broken into. In one vehicle some uniform equipment and an employee ID, and some customer information was taken."

Manitoba Hydro has contacted the Winnipeg Police and released a statement all over southern Manitoba, and they don't know if the thefts will lead to a new fraud scam in rural communities.

"That's why police have been involved," adds Owen. "Our goal is to work with the Winnipeg Police to identify a suspect, or suspects, and get the material -- the identification, the uniforms, and the customer information -- returned to us. We also want to let our customers know that if anyone approaches them claiming to be from Manitoba Hydro, and they do not have a proper Manitoba Hydro photo identification, and they're not driving a Manitoba Hydro marked vehicle, then the customer should not let them into their residence and should contact us or their local police."

He adds be sure you're vigilant if a Manitoba Hydro employee does approach your door.
