This is National Doctors' Day and an event at the Portage Clinic can help you thank your physician. Erin Miller, Executive Director of the Portage District General Hospital Foundation, says this day was first celebrated back in 1933 to show appreciation to the doctors who care for us and our families. Miller notes when you're well your doctor keeps you well, and when you're sick there's no person more important than your doctor. She says National Doctors' Day serves as a reminder for patients, staff and colleagues to recognize all the doctors who play such an important role in our communities and in our lives.

Miller notes this is the first time they're celebrating this special day here in town, adding folks from the Foundation will be at the Portage Clinic until 4:30 p.m. handing out free lemonade and some fun temporary tattoos for the kids. She says they'll also have thank-you cards available so you can come down and write your doctor a thank-you note. Miller notes it doesn't necessarily have to be for a doctor at the clinic, it can be a doctor from anywhere, and they'll make sure it gets delivered to him or her. She adds they've even had some thank-you notes coming in for the local veterinarians.

Miller says tickets for the hospital lottery will also be on sale. She notes there'll be lots of fun and excitement, so everyone is encouraged to stop by the clinic this afternoon and help celebrate National Doctors' Day.
