The Glesby Centre in Portage la Prairie played host to the Manitoba Sustainable Energy Association's annual conference this past week. One of those in attendance was Yvette Cuthbert, who says it's always important to move with the times and learn how we can be more self-sufficient in these matters. Cuthbert notes while it's essential for governments it's also very important for individuals to make personal decisions, because small things all add up to big things in the end. She says she was a bit surprised to learn that most greenhouse gases are produced by the agriculture and transportation industries, adding profit margins always do come into play.

Cuthbert notes she has often wondered if we could use Crescent Lake as a geothermal loop to help provide air conditioning or fill other energy needs for Stride Place or a group of homes. She says it seems like a great opportunity because we have this wonderful resource just sitting there in our back yard. Cuthbert adds it's always hard to find enough mass for geothermal, so she wonders if the lake could somehow be used in that way.
