Campgrounds are busy this weekend around the Portage area, and Sportsman's Corner Campground's no exception. Owner Howard Larkin says they're full, and only some cancellations might get you a spot aside from a few tent sites. He notes the pool's open and everyone's having a good time.

"Campgrounds hope they have good long weekends. It used to do fairly well on the long weekends. We've been really fortunate this year to have three excellent long weekends right from the beginning of May. And it looks like it's sizing up to be a real beaut this weekend. So, we're really happy about it. And we have a full house and community is supporting. Its' really nice; we're doing well out here. We're happy to have it."

Larkin says a fishing derby's on for Saturday and Sunday.

"The fishing derby has been a thing here at Sportsman's, even before we came. And we just basically restarted it again. We have a little fishing derby in May just for silver bass, to kind of kick things off. Then we have our big one here in September long weekend, and we have a silent auction going. People donate prizes, and stuff like that. We have a 50-50 draw; all fun."

He adds it starts Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m., and happens again Sunday at 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Three species are involved in the derby including perch, northern pike, and pickerel.
