The Community Foundation of Portage and District recently awarded a grant to the Special Olympic Teams in Portage la Prairie. The grant has been used by the teams to purchase new uniforms for their players. The Portage la Prairie Active Start Program, Portage Cougars Floor Hockey Team, the Portage Stampeders Basketball, Track and Field Teams were the four teams to benefit from the grant. Executive Director Mandy Dubois explains why the grant was given.

"The Special Olympic Organization of Portage came to us last spring to see if we could grant them funds for their team uniforms," Dubois says. "They really get a proud feeling to have clothes that represent the team. It really isn't just a uniform for these kids."

$3,000 was given to the teams on Tuesday. Dubois tells us she visited one of the team's practices earlier this week.

"The excitement from these kids was overwhelming to me," Dubois exclaims. "They were so excited to show off their new uniforms. They were also very happy that the CFPD was highlighting their team and the new clothes and they really appreciate it."
