The Community Foundation of Portage and District (CFPD) received more funds from the RCMP Musical Ride, as Southport contributed its portion of proceeds.

Portage EX, Southport and CFPD -- co-hosts of the Musical Ride held at the PCU Centre in Portage in July -- announced earlier this week the event raised over $39,000, and the three partners would split to proceeds to re-invest into the community.

Southport presented its share, over $13,000, to CFPD yesterday -- meaning over $26,000 from the Musical Ride went to CFPD. Board chair Paul Davidson says the funds will be used in CFPD's granting program.

"Southport is a vital part of our community and we're very grateful for their contribution," Davidson says. "And how they've chosen to work with us for our general granting for all community benefit."

Southport CEO Peggy May says its part of their organization's mandate to support local initiatives.

"We're proud to be sponsors of local community activities and supporting local events," says May. "The endowment gives us a great opportuntiy to give back to the community that we serve."
