Service for Seniors held their barbecue today at Vopni Park in Portage la Prairie while raising awareness during this World Seniors Abuse Awareness Day. Board member Larry Pettinger was one of the volunteers present.

Larry Pettinger"We've decided that this is Senior's Awareness Week to let people know what's in the community, what Service For Seniors provides in the community. And elder abuse, also; something very important nowadays as always, but trying to make people aware of different types of elder abuse."

He notes he enjoys being part of the cause.

"It's just neat. It's something I enjoy tremendously, and giving back to the community in any small way that you can. My part and my partner Jerry, here, we've got one of the fun jobs. You can see there, we're getting our chicken skewers, our hamburgers. They've gone healthy this year. They've got salads and watermelon. A lot of work goes into it, but we have a lot of fun doing it."

Bernie Wright's another board member, and shares how it fared.

Bernie Wright"It's a beautiful day. It's not hot. We had the rain already, so everything's nice and fresh. But the sun isn't beating down. So, it's actually a perfect day."
