The Salvation Army's centre in Portage la Prairie is getting a bit of a facelift. Major Brenda Coles says the building definitely needed some upgrades, so with the help of a five thousand dollar grant they've been working all summer with volunteers to clean, repaint and redecorate. Coles notes they still have a little more work to do, adding they'll have a soft reopening of the program space on the morning of September 14th.

She says the Salvation Army believes everyone is important and all people are of equal value and worth, noting they wanted to have a space worthy of the folks who come and use it. Coles adds the new upgrades help show the participants that even though they may be facing some tough times and are in need of support, it doesn't mean they're any less of a person. She says hopefully with the newly improved space the Salvation Army in Portage will be able to offer even more programs to help build capacity in people.
