Time is winding down on the annual Salvation Army Kettle Drive, and organizers are hoping for one last push to reach their fundraising target.

There are five days left in the campaign -- that features small donation kettles set up at businesses throughout town -- which has raised $21,000 to date. Salvation Army's Major Brenda Coles says they're hoping to hit $25,000.

"We're really hoping these last five days people will keep up the momentum and keep giving to the cause that really helps us cover the costs of Christmas," Coles says. "If there are any funds left, it goes towards the food bank during the year. But really it just pays for the Christmas (hamper) effort."

"We have a lot of donated toys, but older children we have to buy gift cards for," Coles continues. "And sometimes we have to supplement some things we don't get enough of in the hampers."

Coles adds, Kettle Drive coordinator Rose Carriere has done a great job organizing the campaign. Many businesses and over 95 people have volunteered more than 624 hours to the effort.

"We just appreciate the community getting behind this and helping us do it."
