The rainy weather and the threat of potential snow didn't stop runners from taking part in this year's Treherne Marathon.

Melanie Wall is the Director of the Treherne Marathon. She says it was awesome.

"I was a little worried about the forecast. I think we only had about 10 per cent that didn't show up with the weather. That was similar to the prior year and we had higher numbers this year," says Wall. "I'm happy for the turnout and the runners, for the most part, did very well considering the weather."

According to their website, 465 participants had signed up for this year's race. Wall notes that the marathon draws a lot of people to Treherne.

"All of our profits (from the marathon) go back to the community," says Wall. "We've donated over $75,000 in the last 15 to community projects like daycares, school, campground, swimming pool, as well as we donate the Central Plains Cancer Care."

The Treherne Marathon is a unique marathon. It is a qualifier for the Boston Marathon, (if you meet a specific time) and it is the only marathon and half marathon in Manitoba with a significant elevation change.

Wall would like to send a big thank you to everyone who helped put on the event.

"It takes the whole community to put this on and support it," says Wall. "It takes approximately 140 volunteers. With a community the size that we are. There's a lot of hands that come together to pull this off each year, and that we're truly thankful for."
