The annual Portage Rotary Club's book sale starts today at the Portage Mall in former Seasons Restaurant location. Co-chair Jim Brands explains what it's all about.

"Derek McCutcheon and I tend to lead the book sale every year, which the public's always good enough to support us very well in their donations and purchasing. It's a great fund-raiser for the Rotary Club. This just goes into our general funding. I just had a couple of ladies today inquiring when it was going to be on."

He says they're off to a great start.

"It does look like there is a lot more donations again this year. We've been picking them up again for the last couple of weeks. And one of those ladies I spoke to today asked if she could drop some more off tomorrow. As long as we're open you can drop off books and we'll accept them. There are large paperbacks, small paperbacks, hardcovers. We take VHS tapes, DVDs and CDs."

Brands adds the Mall's been a great help.

"I want to mention how grateful we are to the mall for donating this space. They always help us out with tables and they just do a great deal for us. It's a great, big help."

Sale starts today, and runs through tomorrow, with both days' operation from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday's schedule is from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
