Portage la Prairie's Recreation Opportunities for Kids is flush with cash, following their 50-50 for Kids draw this morning at Golden West studios. Cobalt Industries' ticket was the winner.

Recreation Supervisor Lynne Parker's elated with the $26,000 total, meaning ROK's share is $13,000. She calls it huge.

"That money guarantees now that we can have our summer camp, and we can keep on running our programs," she says, "We had some funding cut this year, so we were trying to work through things, and the thought was that we might have to cut some programs. But this just ensures that we can keep doing the programs we're doing."

Parker never expected response would so overwhelming. She believes it shows the community understands the benefits of what ROK's doing.

"Which is great. It builds our confidence that we are heading in the right direction," she says, "Getting the kids active, getting the families the resources they need, and working to make their lives better. I'm blown away, to know that our community believes in what we're doing in such a big way. It means a lot to us -- it's just going to make me work harder."

Parker hopes the 50-50 will become an annual event.
