Municipalities around Lake Manitoba continue to work to remove reminders of the 2011 and 2014 floods, and the RM of Grahamdale is no exception. They're planning on finishing up some road work this summer, to help address roads that were severely damaged during the flood. Reeve Clifford Halaburda says the roads were in low-lying areas of the municipality, and were washed away quite quickly when the area became inundated with water.

Like many municipal leaders, Halaburda's thrilled to be making progress by removing a constant reminder of the devastation that was seen during some of the worst flooding the area has seen in recent years.

"It's a good thing. Everybody around the lake and other areas had damages to roads and everything else during the floods. It'll be a good feeling later to have this all cleaned up."

Work has also been taken on by the RM of St. Laurent, south of Grahamdale. This year they approved the removal of the geotubes that were put in place during the flood of 2014, a move St. Laurent Reeve Cheryl Smith described as a major step forward to normalizing lives in the municipality.

Not all municipalities want those reminders removed so quickly. The RM of Portage Council voted against removing the flood mitigation infrastructure, opting instead to make strategic cuts to improve water flow but allowing the structures to be closed if the water were to rise again.
