The Town of Stonewall had a meeting this past Wednesday and made the decision to respond to their Stonewall/Rockwood fire committee who provided them with some great news.

Current Fire Hall"Basically we have two members of Stonewall council, and there are two members of Rockwood Council that sit on the fire committee that oversees the fire hall and the whole operation there," explains Stonewall Mayor Lockie McLean. "We know we're stuck in terms of the fire hall right now, and the need for a new fire truck for example. The new fire trucks they build now are a little bit longer. The fire committee came up with a proposal whereby the RM of Rockwood would pay up to $400,000 for an expansion of 1,600 square feet on the current fire hall located in Stonewall. But one of the conditions is that the Town of Stonewall would have to agree to not build a new fire hall for the next 15 years."

McLean says council happily responded to the committee after it made a resolution of agreement on those terms and conditions. He adds they're quite thrilled with the council members from both councils who came up with the great proposal.
