The RM of Portage la Prairie's 2017 budget was officially passed at their most recent council meeting.

"I think council, administration and public works have done a great job of putting this budget together," says Reeve Kam Blight. "We will see a 1.5 per cent tax-rate decrease, our mill rate is going down, and we're improving services and upgrading certain areas of our municipality. I think we're going in the right direction and I'm very proud of this budget."

Blight feels with the tax-rate and mill rates going down will really help the municipality grow.

"I think it shows that this is a council that is dedicated to lowering taxes and still providing as great a service as we can and making improvements. We always challenge our administration and public works to find those efficiencies and to try and find ways to make things better. We're never satisfied and we want to continue to lower our tax rate if possible and improve the services we can provide. That has to be very positive for anyone looking to relocate or invest in this area."
