The Rural Municipality of Portage isn’t letting COVID-19 stand in the way of the projects included in its 2020 financial plan.

The municipality has over $20M slated for projects in its plan - $16M of which is allotted for the proposed regional water reservoir.

RM of Portage Reeve, Kam Blight, speaks about the funding strategy for the reservoir project.

“That is going to be funded largely by provincial and federal grants, if approved,” explains Blight. “So that’s something we’re keeping on the table to proceed with. It is vital for the future growth of our area and also to be able to provide sustained water pressure to a lot of residents in our area as well as the Yellowhead Regional Water Co-op.”

Other projects the RM has slated for the year ahead include paving in Oakville and further development of its industrial park.

“Some of the major projects we’re still working on - we’ll do some paving on 6th Avenue in Oakville, its something that's been in the cards for a couple years now - just carrying on with that new development and trying to improve the infrastructure out there,” adds Blight. “We are also going to be spending a fair bit of money on our industrial park, getting it developed and getting it ready for future industrial investment.”
