Portage la Prairie will celebrate Louis Riel Day in style on Monday. Landeyn Aymont, chair of the Louis Riel Day celebration committee, says this is the fifth annual event for Portage and everyone is very pleasantly surprised at how well it's been received by the community. Aymont notes they wanted to have a chance to show people their Metis traditions and culture, and this turned out to be the perfect medium for that. He says the efforts that go into the Louis Riel Day celebration are unbelievable, adding it's a lot of work for everyone but it always turns out to be such a fun day. Aymont notes they couldn't be happier with the way the general public responds to their efforts.

He says this event is a wonderful chance for the Metis community to give back, adding what better way to get that message across than providing family entertainment for everyone to enjoy. Aymont notes their primary partner from day one has been the Portage Regional Recreation Authority, but they also want to acknowledge the fantastic job the Portage Friendship Centre did with this event last year. He says the Metis Prairie Steppers have also been a wonderful partner for the annual event, adding this year they saw the business community really step up to help them out as well. Aymont notes without all their sponsors the celebration wouldn't even happen, so they're extremely grateful to everyone involved.
