Revitalize Portage! is once again offering applications for grants in Portage la Prairie. Portage Community Revitalization Corporation community facilitator Victoria Olson explains what's available and how it works.

Victoria Olson"The next deadline for Revitalize Portage is June 1. Revitalize Portage is a grant for up to $5,000 for ongoing community projects or initiatives, or $2,500 for a single day event. Any local group of organization within the city who's thinking about running an event or a project of some sort might apply for funding, and should apply for funding."

Olson says the funding is limited.

"We had applications come in on the first deadline of March 4th. We only have a little bit of funding left. Even if somebody's thinking of running an event over Christmas, or after Christmas, apply for the June 1st deadline. We will have one more coming up, and that's October 1st. But I can't promise that there'll be funds left."

She notes the response to see so many applications come in is exciting, since these programs can continue and become sustainable. Olson says the La Verendrye Breakfast program, Soup For Learning at North Memorial both really benefited Portage. These events were made possible thanks to these grants, and they're still running today.

Requirements include local groups or organizations that are incorporated or non-incorporated can apply. Not for profit organizations, parent councils, neighbourhood advisory groups, or associations, service groups. You cannot apply as an individual.
