The reeve of the Municipality of Norfolk-Treherne's applauding the efforts of those involved with the Sears National Kids Cancer Ride. The riders, who are travelling from Vancouver to Halifax, stopped in Treherne recently. Craig Spencer says it's the third time the riders have stopped in the community, as they aim to raise funds for various Cancer related services and initiatives.

"They were between the ages of 16 and 60. This national ride had the 15 best shaped individuals I've ever seen in my life. They were extremely healthy, were doing a wonderful thing to raise money to assist various Cancer related efforts."

He notes they had a short break and celebration in the community, before continuing their journey. Spencer says it was a heartwarming experience, especially when some of the youth from the community's day care came out to show their support. He says the children were quite excited, as they took pictures and waved flags in support of the cyclists.

"When I see young children, and a few of the little guys had runny noses and were giving hugs and these folks were asking for hugs, it's really special. And that was the age group they were targeting in their efforts, so it really was heartwarming."

This year marked the ninth year for the ride, which sees riders traveling from Vancouver to Halifax in just 18 days. The participants ride in relay style, and are supported by local riders at different locations. It's anticipates this year's ride raised more than $1.5 million.
