The new Southern Chiefs Organization (SCO) Grand Chief's been busy in the last couple of months since his election. Jerry Daniels received his headdress for the position this past week in his home community of Long Plain First Nation.

"We've just been organizing ourselves around the different files and just making sure that we're following up on the resolutions that have been passed over the last number of years, and charting out a new course of the future of the organization, and leadership in Southern Manitoba," Daniels explains.

He says one of their key priorities is flood mitigation in their Interlake communities. The SCO is endeavouring to establish long-term strategic flood prevention plans, as well as plans for their education and housing. Daniels adds economic development's also important to them, and they want to create streams to facilitate that, so they can be in charge with decision-making and have the resources to back it up.
