SUSPECT FACES CHARGES
Portage la Prairie RCMP were called to a disturbance on 8th Street NW just before midnight Nov. 3. In speaking with witnesses, they determined that a male suspect had broken several items inside a home. Police came in contact with the suspect, who provided a name and date of birth of another person. Investigators were able to determine that the suspect was in fact Trent Dean Pashe, 22, who was at large on a warrant for his arrest. Pashe was held in custody on that warrant, and on new charges including personation, as he tried to avoid capture by using another person’s identity. Pashe was brought before the court at a later time.

MULTIPLE TICKETS ISSUED FOR FAILING TO SLOW DOWN
Between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM on Nov. 4, while conducting traffic stops on Hwy 1, the Portage la Prairie RCMP issued 9 tickets to motorists who failed to reduce their speed when passing an emergency vehicle. The $299.65 fine is meant to drive home the importance of slowing down. Emergency services and tow truck drivers find themselves at a greater risk of being struck by passing motorists; reducing your speed when passing these vehicles can make the difference between life and death should there be a collision. Motorists are required to slow to 40 km/h when the posted speed limit is lower than 80km/h, and to 60 km/h when the speed limit is 80 km/h and above.

PUBLIC INTOXICATION
Portage la Prairie RCMP were called to a report of an impaired driver in MacGregor Nov. 5, shortly before closing time at the Hotel bar. Officers received a complaint regarding an erratic driver, also believe to be impaired, driving at a high rate of speed and failing to stop at intersections. When investigators arrived on scene and began speaking with witnesses, a male, 30, began shouting at police. The male was highly intoxicated, and refused to listen to police when told to leave the bar. As a result, the male was issued a fine in the amount of $673.65 under the Liquor and Gaming Control Act, for being disorderly in or about a licensed premises.
