The following is a summary of police activity in the Central Plains Area (Portage la Prairie, Treherne, Amaranth and the surrounding Rural Municipalities). The reporting dates are between March 6 and March 12, 2017. During this time period police responded to: 233 calls for service.

POLICE DOGS DEPLOYED
Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to an alarm at The Cellar Door on Saskatchewan Avenue E March 11. A broken window and an open door had officers searching the business for suspects, while Police Dog Services followed a trail towards 7th Street NE and Lorne Avenue. Investigators located clothing and tools believed to have been used by the suspect, which will now be subject to forensic analysis. ARENA BREAK-INS
Portage la Prairie RCMP were called to both the MacGregor Community Rink and the Oakville Arena March 6, as the buildings were found to have been broken into overnight. Unidentified suspects damaged doors and stole an undisclosed amount of money and other small items. VEHICLE FIRE
Portage la Prairie emergency services were called to the area of 6th Avenue and 3rd Street NE at 3:26 a.m., March 7 for a vehicle reportedly on fire. Portage Fire Department quickly extinguished the blaze and determined that there was no one inside the vehicle. An examination of the vehicle determined that it had been stolen from the area Radisson Avenue earlier in the night. CHARGES PENDING AFTER TRAFFIC STOP
While patrolling Saskatchewan Avenue near the CO-OP gas bar March 8, officers observed a vehicle in disrepair, causing some concern over whether it should be on the road or not. In performing a traffic stop, officers discovered that the male driver and male passenger were in a stolen vehicle. Both were arrested and taken into police custody. While searching the vehicle investigators also located drug paraphernalia and a substance believed to be ‘crystal meth’. The matter is still under investigation, and criminal charges are pending.

SHOPPER'S SHOP-LIFTER
Portage la Prairie RCMP were called to Shoppers Drug Mart March 9 shortly after 11:00 p.m., as a male suspect ran from the store without paying for several items. Patrolling officers quickly located the suspect, who ran again, but not far or fast enough. Arrested for theft, failing to comply with court imposed conditions, and resisting arrest, was Kiefer William BeaulieU, 25. Beaulieu was held in custody until such time as he could be brought before the court.

DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE
Portage la Prairie RCMP were called to the area of 8th Street NW and Fisher Avenue for a report of a disturbance March 10. Police arrived and spoke with several people around the home. One male identified himself using a fake name. Officers quickly caught the male in his lie and learned that the male was breaching several court imposed conditions. Thaddeus Cyril Sutherland, 19, was arrested for obstructing a peace officer and failing to comply with court imposed conditions of release. Sutherland was held in custody until such time as he could be brought before the court.

AMARANTH DISTURBANCE
Amaranth RCMP responded on March 12 to a disturbance resulting in the arrest of Bobbie Joe William Demach, 30. Demach was previously at large on multiple warrants for his arrest, and had successfully evaded police despite multiple tips from concerned members of the community. Demach was held in police custody until such time as he could be brought before the court.
