The following is a summary of police activity in the Central Plains Area (Portage la Prairie, Treherne, Amaranth and the surrounding Rural Municipalities). The reporting dates are between 2016-10-03 and 2016-10-09. During this time period police responded to: 283 calls for service

FIDDLE FIGHTS
Portage la Prairie RCMP were called to the Cat & Fiddle two separate times after the bar closed Oct. 8. A male was causing a disturbance in the parking lot, and two females were reportedly fighting. Police arrested the male (21 years old) and one of the females (36 years old) under the Liquor and Gaming Control Act, for being disorderly in or around a licensed premises. Both were issued fines in the amount of $673.65.

SHOPLIFTER AT WALMART
Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to an attempted shoplifting Oct. 5 at Wal-Mart, where loss prevention officers were able to detain a suspect, but was assaulted in the process. Officers arrived on scene and took a female, 20, into custody after she allegedly used a can of pop to assault a store employee. Appearing before the court on a charge of assault with a weapon was Fantasia Agatha Prince. Investigators are reviewing security footage in order to identify a male suspect involved with the matter

INTOXICATED DRIVING
Treherne RCMP responded to a suspicious vehicle West of Cypress River Oct. 3, when callers were concerned the driver might be intoxicated. Police arrived on scene to find a SUV on the decommissioned railway track, and the sole occupant, a male (63 years old), was behind the steering wheel. The male displayed several signs that he was under the influence of alcohol, and was arrested for the impaired care or control of a motor vehicle. His subsequent breath sampled were nearly double the legal limit. The vehicle was towed and impounded for a minimum of 30 days at the owner’s expense

VANDALISM IN PORTAGE
Portage la Prairie RCMP received several calls regarding vandalism to vehicles and buildings along Saskatchewan Avenue West Oct. 3. Spray paint was used to damage at least 2 vehicles and several buildings between 11th Street SW and 17th Street SW. Police are asking that property owners call in suspicious activity immediately. No suspects have been identified at this time. If you have any information regarding those responsible for these incidents, contact your local police detachment. HOME INVASION ARRESTS
Officers responded to a home invasion in the 600 block of 2nd Street NW Oct. 5, after receiving several calls from people in the home and concerned neighbours. A resident was assaulted by a male and female who were known to the victim. Property damage and threats were made by the assailants, who fled the scene before police arrived. Officers located the female suspect, Cheyenne Elizabeth Longclaws, 24, who was arrested and held in custody on charges of assault, uttering threats, and being unlawfully in a dwelling house. A warrant for the arrest of Kelly-Jo Samuels, 25, was issued, and his photo released to the local media. Samuels later turned himself in to police as a result, and is now before the court.

ALLEGED ASSAULT NEAR KEESKEEMAQUAH 
On Oct. 6, Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a reported assault at a residence on Mishoomis Place, behind the Keeshkeemaquah Gaming Centre. Officers arrived to find a victim with injuries to their head, and two suspects were identified. The victim received medical treatment and was released from hospital a short time later. The suspects were located at a local hotel, where a 21-year-old male was arrested and taken into police custody for assault. The matter is now before the courts

SPEEDY DRIVING 
On Oct. 4, a motorist was observed travelling at 138 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Hwy 1. The male driver (63 years old) was issued a fine in the amount of $548.25.

A driver was observed travelling at 145 km/h in a 100 km/h zone of Hwy 1 on Oct. 6. The 27-year-old male was issued a fine in the amount of $639.25.

A motorist was observed travelling at 96 km/h in a 50 km/h zone through the village of Poplar Point on Oct. 7. The male driver, 36, was issued a fine in the amount of $652.50.

On Oct. 8, a motorist was observed travelling at 138 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Hwy 1. The male driver, 25, was issued a fine in the amount of $548.25.

A motorist was observed travelling at 142 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Hwy 1 on Oct. 9. The male driver, 36, was issued a fine in the amount of $599.75.
