A high number of reports came into Portage la Prairie RCMP of vehicle break-ins this past weekend.

RCMP media liaison Const. Sean O'Keefe says multiple calls were received by police Sunday night from residents of Oakville, MacGregor and Southport, of attempted thefts of motor vehicles.

Police say in a release, in most of the incidents vehicles were rummaged through and an attempt to steal the vehicle was made.

“At this time, it appears Dodge Ram trucks were the primarily targeted vehicle,” the RCMP release explains.

Investigators are asking that if residents in the communities have been victimized they contact the Portage la Prairie RCMP at 204-857-4445. If your vehicle or garage have been broken into, please refrain from touching anything the suspects might have, as forensic evidence could link all of these incidents together.

“We are still investigating some evidence found at scenes, and are still trying to link every incident to each other,” O'Keefe adds. “Having victims call in provides us a pattern we can follow. And hopefully someone may have seen something and we might be able to identify those responsible.”
