The Portage la Prairie RCMP says two fires this week have been deemed suspicious. House fires on 5th Street North West and 1st Street North West were reported just ten minutes apart early Thursday morning. Police say the home of 5th Street was abandoned at the time, and was slated for demolition earlier this month. Meanwhile the 1st Street fire was also vacant, as it's believed the home was being renovated.

Both fires are being investigated, as the Office of the Fire Commissioner says it appears both were intentionally set.

The RCMP is now asking the public to keep an eye out for suspicious activity around abandoned homes or structures. Police are asking anyone who sees anything suspicious to call either local detachment, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) and www.manitobacrimestoppers.com.

Meanwhile two people are facing charges after Portage la Prairie RCMP officers executed two search warrants on Tupper Street North on September 2. Upon entering the homes police discovered firearms, various drugs and paraphernalia, and equipment used for the purpose of trafficking.

As a result of the investigation, 26 year-old Krystine Tracy Mousseau was arrested and released from custody. She faces charges of trafficking methamphetamine, and possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. 30 year old Rambo Ronnie Roulette was arrested and remanded into custody. He faces charges of unauthorized possession of a weapon, failing to comply with court-imposed conditions, possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of meth for the purpose of trafficking.
