Over 1,000 kids from Winnipeg and area visited ten stations set up this week at the 2016 Amazing Agriculture Adventure.

One of the booths was led by Bailey Gitzel, a first year Plant Bio-Tech student at the University of Manitoba. Gitzel, who is originally from the Carman-area, also spoke about her trip to the 2015 Global Youth Institute in Iowa at the Ag in the Classroom dinner on Tuesday evening. A highlight she shared with the audience, that included agriculture reps and Manitoba Agriculture Minister Ralph Eichler, was seeing the presentation of the 2015 World Food Prize.

She said the evening was an incredible experience.

"I think it really opens their eyes to what the younger generation is doing and also all of the opportunities that we have."

When asked what she thought of events like the Amazing Agriculture Adventure, Gitzel replied "I think it's great, especially in the cities, a lot of people have no idea where their food is coming from."

The first year University of Manitoba student gained direct entry into the Plant Bio-Tech program where she plans to earn a Bachelor's degree. Gitzel also plans to pursue a future Master's degree in Plant Genomics.
