A number of volunteers from Sunset Palliative Care in Portage la Prairie are attending the 25th annual Provincial Palliative Care Conference this week. Volunteer Coordinator Aldene Moroz says these folks will be able to improve their ability to deliver palliative care by getting advanced knowledge at the sessions, noting they'll learn how to advocate for increased awareness, navigate systems, and utilize available services. Moroz says the conference also provides a great networking opportunity for people interested in the field of palliative care as well as a chance for informal caregivers to learn more about delivering palliative care programs. She adds it gives them more skills on a day to day basis and is a wonderful way to expand their roles as caregivers.

Moroz notes the two-day conference is very intense and participants will be working hard. She says outside of Winnipeg, Portage la Prairie usually sends the most volunteers to this annual event, adding this year fifteen people from their organization are in attendance. Moroz notes it's a real tribute to the citizens of Portage who have helped raise funds for this, and it speaks volumes for what goes on in our town under Sunset Palliative Care.
