With all the rain we've had recently, it's important to protect you house and property.

Cobbe's Plumbing and Heating's General Manager Andy Taylor says it's important to keep the water away from your house.

"Not really hearing anything about sub-pumps backing up. A lot of people are pumping water out of their weeping tiles and sub-pumps. The best way to look after it right off the hop is to make sure the downspouts and everything are away from the house. Water gets away from the house, and the land isn't draining toward the house, it's draining away from the house."

He adds, you may even want to grab a second pump for your basement.

"A spare sub-pump if you, if you pump is working, and you have real high water all the time it's good to have two in there. One as a back-up, and if it gets too heavy, both can cut in, and make sure the hose is not into your sewer, but away from the house a good 100 feet to let the water drain its way and doesn't come back."

Cobbe's says it's easy to make sure your house is prepared for heavy rains by ensuring the water is running away from the house, and off the property.
