The 7th annual Prairie Wind Music Festival is this weekend in Cypress River.

The festival kicks off Friday evening with family activities and runs until Sunday morning, wrapping up with a pancake breakfast. Coordinator Jackie Chamberlain says Prairie Wind has always showcased local, Manitoba talent and adds they've been compared to Folk Fest, back in the day, as well as Harvest Moon Festival.

"That's really exciting for us," says Chamberlain. "We're a small grassroots festival just focusing on local music, Winnipeg music and family fun. And everybody is just there to enjoy it."

She adds the festival attracts people from all over, which is really exciting for them.

"It's the one event in the year that we see a lot of people coming from all over," explains Chamberlain, "like, not just the two neighbouring towns but people from Winnipeg, sometimes people from the States show up, people from Brandon. It's really great to have a collective group of people, who all enjoy the same thing, getting together and having a great time."
