'Tis the season for holiday music.

Musicians young and old strummed holiday classics, among other tunes, as the Prairie Fiddlers played the Glesby Centre in Portage la Prairie yesterday.

Winter Wonderland, Silent Night and O Christmas Tree were just a few of the holiday hits the crowd were treated too. There was a blend of traditional tunes off the seasonal beat, like the Red River Jig, performed as well.

Fiddlers from across the region make up the band, including a bevy of Portage area talent. One of those was 10-year-old Alexis Iles. She's been strumming the fiddle for four years, and says she always loves the opportunity to perform on stage.

"I liked singing and having (my friend) play the ukelele with me," Alexis says. "I like performing for people and making people happy with my music."

Another local artist, Bagot's Kamryn Killam, 13, has been playing the fiddle for six years. She enjoyed helping people get into the spirit of the season through music.

"I like how everyone shows up and it's a big performance," she says. "It gets everyone in the Christmas spirit."

Prairie Fiddlers director Mark Morisseau adds the whole band performed wonderfully, and everyone had a lot of fun playing the Glesby.
