The storm that's gradually moving out of southern Manitoba caused problems for a significant number of people, in the form of power outages last night and early this morning.

That included residents in the MacGregor and Austin areas, west of Portage la Prairie.

Manitoba Hydro Public Affairs Officer Bruce Owen says the bad weather prevented crews from dealing with the outages right away.

"Because, obviously, in the conditions last night, our staff couldn't see the road. We were able to restore service to most customers this morning," he says, "However, if people are still without service, we encourage them to report -- that way, we can deploy our crews most effectively."

Owen urges anyone still experiencing trouble, to call.

"We want to restore service ASAP. We've got people on the road, visibility is certainly a lot better now. In some other areas near you (Portage area), we're relying on snowmobiles to get to problem areas, and we need to know, so we can get a crew to you as quickly as possible."
