The Municipality of North Norfolk Council looked after some post-amalgamation housekeeping at their last meeting. They approved the creation of a planning reserve, and moving a small amount of existing funding into it.

Mayor Neil Christoffersen says that money was left over from the now-defunct Nor-Mac Planning District between themselves, and the Town on MacGregor.

"The provincial act says in order to have a planning district, there need to be two or more municipalities involved, and now they've amalgamated into one municipality, so this money is still sitting in an account in the credit union marked "the Nor-Mac Planning District." So the financial housekeeping that we're doing is moving it into a new reserve in the new municipality."

Christoffersen stresses having those funds available may be important down the road.

"Both councils of the day, when the planning document was formed, realized the importance of having a planning document, to set out some policy, to give people some direction and guidance in where the municipality is going. And we know that down the road we're going to have to do that again, whether we join another planning district, or whether we stay on our own, and do it. And that's what this money is earmarked for."
