Another impact was made on the overpass coming into Portage la Prairie on the west end of the city just this last Friday. The entrance into the city's been closed off now since then.

"It's been closed off due to an over-height load impact which happened just before 5:00 p.m. last Friday," says Manitoba's Acting Executive Director of Structures Russell Andrushuk. "A portion of the bridge was critically damaged including the exterior beam and a couple of other beams in between. So, we moved the critically damaged portion of the bridge last Friday evening into Saturday morning."

He explains a further assessment is currently underway, which will be followed by the determination of a timeline for repairs. Andrushuk adds once the full damage is assessed they'll be able to inform us when the west end entrance will be reopened.

He adds official detour is by way of the city bypass and then up into Portage by Highway 240.
