The Portage la Prairie School Division is adapting to a mid-pandemic world.

The division held its second online board meeting on April 14th.

Superintendent Todd Cuddington said in the meeting that parents should call the school beforehand to pick up schoolwork.

“The majority are doing things online. However, there are some who have limited access, so they’re getting more traditional paper and pencil. There are materials that are being distributed, it’s been that way for quite some time.”

They’ve also started the process of letting students in to pick things up they’ve left at school.

“To ease congestion and prevent a big queue from developing at the schools, we advise they call ahead and advise the principal that they’re coming in.”

Cuddington says he’s received positive feedback from teachers about the transition process but understands how it can be stressful for parents.

He also knows the pandemic affects graduating students.

“We are working to support our seniors as much as possible. Active conversations are happening around planning so that they do have the ceremonies and activities at some point if it means moving it further down the line. We’re just waiting from the province to see what’s next.”
