The Portage District General Hospital Foundation took some of the limelight last week at the Legislature in WInnipeg.

"We found out a couple of days ahead of time that the Portage District General Hospital Foundation was going to be getting acknowledged in the House at the Legislative building," says Foundation Executive Director Erin Miller. "We were able to attend and hear all the fabulous things they had to say about our community and the Portage Hospital Foundation, and kudos to Jim Knight, who was chair for the board for over 30 years."

Miller says it's a privilege to know the House took time at the event to speak about the Hospital Foundation, considering so many other great things are happening in and around Portage. She adds she enjoyed the opportunity to speak with Portage la Prairie MLA Ian Wishart afterward, who told her it was his honour to speak about the Foundation.

Ian Wishart says, "I had the oppoprtunity to read a Private Members Statement. Erin Miller was there in recognition of the great work that was done over many, many years -- 30 years, if Im not mistaken -- in terms of generating income that has always been invested in the (Portage District General) Hospital, or Regency (House), or Douglas Campbell (Lodge) in Portage, so that the residents of those facilities have been able to benefit." He continues, "They've become a major player in making sure we can keep those facilities current. I just wanted a chance to recognize the great contribution; in particular Jim Knight, who's been on that board of directors 30 years."
