It's been called Portage's best-kept secret. Portage Flying Club acting president Rick Yaskiw says the club's still around.

Fundraiser draw for quad"Portage Flying Club has been here for 71 years," explains Yaskiw. "We've gone through periods of activity and inactivity in the last couple of years. We've got a flying school here and a couple of younger people come in. The flying club's become more active. The Portage Flying Club is actually Portage's airport."

Yaskiw says they've been raising money for new equipment for snow removal and grass-cutting, as well as funding to cover their tax bills. He notes several people were surprised to know the club's still operating, while he acknowledges there have been long periods of inactivity. Yaskiw says they're always looking for members, adding the world's actually experiencing a shortage of pilots.
