An independent filmmaker's making a movie about life in Portage la Prairie. Aaron Peters explains how he got the idea.

"What started it all was Niverville. I saw Niverville was promoting themselves on the Winnipeg Transit buses. I thought to myself, maybe they'd like to have a film made. I'm always looking for different projects to start on my own. I wanted to try and reach out to people in different small towns and cities, and start a project with the people."

Peters says folks are excited about their hometown.

"When I decided to get people into my studio and have them speak about their hometown, I didn't know if anybody would be interested. And also knowing that I've seen no one online has done that, I was pleasantly surprised to hear back from a lot of people."

He adds hits for his online previews went through the roof.

"Portage la Prairie's ad was seen something like 1,300 times. This means that people are interested in this. The rest of the town's ads weren't seen as much as Portage's. So I said let's kick this up a notch and let's get some people in the studio and make a little trailer promo film. That trailer film's been seen close to 3,000 times. This is all in the span of ten days."

Peters notes no one knows about Island Park, seeing as it cannot be seen from the main roadway nor the bypass. He says he's looking for local businesses to sponsor it, will receive their name added to the credits, and have their business filmed and inserted into the movie. It's a new marketing tool that will help people find out where great places are to live in MB.
